How this solar calculator works

Solar size is your annual electricity use multiplied by your generation target, divided by estimated annual output per kW. Output uses your full-sun hours, roof factor and solar losses. The starting values are illustrative planning assumptions, not measured New Zealand location data.

What battery size do I need?

We estimate one average night's electricity use, then allow for battery discharge efficiency. This gives usable storage capacity. Nominal capacity additionally allows for your selected usable share. Battery power (kW), backup circuits and the ability to recharge during winter require separate design; a larger battery alone does not create more solar energy.

Will solar cover my whole electricity bill?

Matching annual generation to annual usage does not mean all power is used when generated. Daytime use, exports, tariffs and seasonal variation affect savings.
